Cathy Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 Just wanted to make sure it wasn't a dream. Seems as if I read where we will be able to e-file amended returns with the new Mef system. Quickly searched IRS's site and of course up popped instructions for paper filing. If I wasn't dreaming, does anyone know if the ability to e-file amended returns will be soon or is it just in the works? Thanks! Cathy Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 6, 2012 Report Posted February 6, 2012 IRS representative spoke at our last PTP meeting. e-filing of 1040X is not even on the horizon. Currently you can e-file 2009-2011, but don't expect 1040X for a few years. Quote
Cathy Posted February 12, 2012 Author Report Posted February 12, 2012 Thanks, Jack! Seems I have nothing better to dream about other than e-filing amended returns! It will be nice when it's available. I don't expect it to speed up the process, however, it will be nice to know the return will be in the system a lot quicker. Thanks again! Cathy Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 12, 2012 Report Posted February 12, 2012 This year, MEF will allow e-filing of 2009, 2010 & 2011 returns, if the meet the requirements to be an MEF return. Haven't tried it yet, but we have about 3 clients with this in the queue to be done soon. Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 Hello Jack, Would you post on that experiance with old returns. Like how do we know that they would me the MEF rules, aceptance time etc. as I have a couple I would like to try. Thanks Quote
elfling Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 We were able to e-file a corrected 1099-MISC last week. And W2/W3c are possible via SSA BSO. So maybe the 1040X isn't as far off as it would seem. One can only hope. Quote
joanmcq Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I've got a 2010 return in my queue, so I'm hoping it can be e-filed! Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 14, 2012 Report Posted February 14, 2012 I've got a 2010 return in my queue, so I'm hoping it can be e-filed! Make sure to do an update of the 2010 program. The last update changes the 1040Efile form to accept MEF filing. Quote

Like how do we know that they would me the MEF rules, aceptance time etc. as I have a couple I would like to try. Thanks I just e-filed a 2010 1120S and the status now shows transmitted to EFC. We will see what happens tomorrow... Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 I just e-filed a 2010 1120S and the status now shows transmitted to EFC. We will see what happens tomorrow... 2010 1120S return e-filed yesterday was acknowleged today. 2010 e-filing does work. 2009 still in limbo. Quote
Lion EA Posted February 15, 2012 Report Posted February 15, 2012 You could efile entities for some years now via MEF. But, individual returns had only a handful of forms available to qualify for MEF in prior years. Quote
TAXMAN Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Any news as of yet on the 09 return. Was it a personal return? Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted February 16, 2012 Report Posted February 16, 2012 Any news as of yet on the 09 return. Was it a personal return? I have not done a 2009, but filed a 2010 on Tuesday, and it was acknowleged on Wednesday. So I know 2010 works. The return was an 1120S. Quote
