FTS13 Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 I have a client whose daughter was born stillborn. Can he claim that dependent for that year? ATX is letting me do it, but in the "error check" says that we need to send a copy of the birth certificate to the IRS. Can i still efile this return and send the certificate by mail? Or will they not issue the refund until they receive the certificate? Quote
frazzled Posted February 4, 2012 Report Posted February 4, 2012 A stillborn child cannot be claimed as a dependent. The baby has to have been born alive and issued a birth certificate. Quote
