Hugo Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Dad is on umpleyment he is probably going the get something (w2g)from state around 4k.....he is living with daugter she has been supporting him all year. Can daughter claim his dad dependency? if so ... what about the umployment benefits her dad received? Any inputs are appreciated Quote
MAMalody Posted January 16, 2012 Report Posted January 16, 2012 Check the dependency tests. You may have a problem with the gross income test. For federal purposes, unemployment benefit income is generally taxable income. Quote
Pacun Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 No dependency exemption in this case. If daughter doesn't have anyone else to qualify her as a HOH, you should check the rules for HOH carefully and maybe she qualifies for HOH based on the fact that she supported him more than 50%. Quote
mcb39 Posted January 17, 2012 Report Posted January 17, 2012 Your Father or Mother must qualify to be your dependent in order to be a qualifying relative for HOH. Quote
