Jack from Ohio Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 I got this Error message when I tried to create an e-file for this return. The amount is question is other business interest entered on line 16b of Schedule C. Error: IRS e-file exclusion: Name(s) and Address(es) of person who received Form 1098 must be entered. If Other Interest amount is not associated with Form 1098, paper file this return. The only way to avoid the Error was to move the interest to line 48. Putting the interest on every possible place on the worksheet for line 16b made no difference whatsoever. The interest is interest paid on the business credit card. Any help would be appreciated. I have been on hold with tech support for 31 minutes at this point, and the technician I spoke to did not even know what Schedule C was for. PLEASE HELP!! Quote
NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 Under form field references for individual income tax returns on the IRS website, I found Form 1098 Explanation line 16a and Form 1098 name/address 16b. I don't know what this means. I can't believe that you have to have a 1098 for any ohter interest to be deductible. Hopefully, ATX just misinterpreted the regs. I haven't done a Schedule C yet this year. Good luck with customer support. I spent an hour this morning with a very nice person, but if they would have handed me to a higher tech immediately, I would have gotten done a lot faster. Mine is a programming error. Quote

Jack from Ohio Posted January 17, 2008 Author Report Posted January 17, 2008 I just received this answer from a knowledgeable technician at ATX... It's a programming issue. mdmcfarland Posted January 17, 2008 Report Posted January 17, 2008 I finally got ahold of tech support. I was told that an address needed to be entered on the worksheet for Sch C lines 16a & 16b. Once I did that, I didn't get an error in creating it for efile. I guess that is their quick fix. They are working on correcting that error, but couldn't promise how long it would take. The support person I talked to said she didn't know if it was a "priority". Quote
