Pacun Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I heard that the cost of a computer purchased by a student can be added to tuition and qualify for education credits. Can someone elaborate on that? I think it is gone but I just wanted to double check. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 American Opportunity Credits allows deduction for ANY book, supplies, equipment that is REQUIRED for the course of study or attendance at the college. Graphic Arts students are commonly required to have MacBooks. Cameras for a photography class. Tack for horse riding studies, etc. Some colleges REQUIRE that the student have a laptop. This qualifies the laptop expense. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted November 9, 2011 Report Posted November 9, 2011 I believe that if a student has a Coverdell Education IRA, they can also use funds from that for any educational expense required, including computers and books. And this is available for Kindergarten through College if I am not mistaken. Quote
