Lucho Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 I want to make sure I am correct: A tax payer working in the USA whose wife is in another country can file a joint return (assuming they are married) and send her the forms to be signed; also if the nonresident has no SS#, the return must include a W-7 form for a ITIN application. Is this correct or Am I wrong. Thank you for any help. Lucho Quote

Lucho Correct... in addition, both have to report their global income and they both have to sign a statement electing to be treated as resident and you have to file 1040. Quote
Lion EA Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 And, there's a separate address for returns with W-7s that I don't know since I haven't handled one for a long time. Quote
