TonyP Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I'm trying to file an Indiana IT-40PNR tax return but am getting no option to do so after clicking on the e-file icon; only option is federal e-file. The Indiana form that I've opened and complete are their IT-8879 and their EF info, yet after completing those forms (I believe),... I get no option to E-file a IT-40PNR for my client. Am I missing something when filling-out their IN EF info & IN IT-8879 ??? Quote
MAMalody Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 I had the same problem and found out that ATX does not support IN NR e-file, even though IN accepts it. You client will need to paper file the IN return. Quote
windmill Posted April 30, 2011 Report Posted April 30, 2011 Oklahoma NR are all paper filed. Maybe IN is the same. Quote
mcb39 Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 You could always do it on the Indiana.gov website. I left you a link on the other ATX Community board. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 Indiana does not allow the e-file of non-resident forms. I live 12 miles from the Indiana border. It is NOT ATX, it is Indiana. Quote
MAMalody Posted May 1, 2011 Report Posted May 1, 2011 According to IN Pub 1345, page 8 the 2010 IT-40PNR can be e-filed. Am I reading their publication wrong? Quote

Catherine Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I had an IN NR return this year and couldn't e-file. Read the instructions online at the state site; they do NOT accept NR return e-files. Annoying, but that's how it goes. Has to be paper-filed. Quote
David1980 Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 IN does allow the non-resident forms to be efiled. However, only with MeF, which of course doesn't accept everything. So basically, since a lot of software doesn't support MeF yet, and a lot of forms cannot be sent through MeF anyway, most people cannot efile the NR Indiana forms. It's a confusing state since at first glance at their documentation you would think it could be done, until you realize they only allow it through the EF system that handles a very small number of returns.
