GraceNY Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 My clients return was rejected 'cuz grandma "inadvertently/mistakenly" claimed grandaughter on her return. It really was an oversight as circumstances in prior years allowed her to claim the granchild and grandma's preparer forgot to remove the dependent and it got e-filed. MY QUESTION: Can an amended return be filed for grandma (removing grandchild) and sent in along with (in the same envelope)with a paper return for my client claiming the dependent in order to be processed concurrenty and speed up my clients refund? And, if so, has anyone done this....and how long did it take for refund? Thank you in advance to all who reply. Grace Quote
Maribeth Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 Never, ever put two returns in one envelope. File the amended grandmother's return, wait about a week, then send the second return. Maribeth Quote
chadlonetree Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 I agree. I did this about 7 years ago, and it was the last time!!! It got so screwed up in processing it took over a year to get fixed. Quote
BulldogTom Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 I agree as well. You are just asking to make this worse if you put them in the same envelope. Tom Lodi, CA Quote
Terry D EA Posted March 29, 2011 Report Posted March 29, 2011 I can't add anything additional so be sure to follow the others. DO NOT put more than one return in an envelope. Doing so will just make matters worse. If you could even get inside the mail room at one of the IRS processing centers, you would see why. Quote
