GeorgeM Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Does anyone know if TaxWise has a board? Or are there any other boards besides this one and Tax almanac? Maybe we can find out if TaxWise customers are having the same problem. Quote
JohnH Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 If TaxWise ever had a board, I'm betting that at some point it was shut down in a rude & abrupt manner in order to "maintain their commitment to a high level of customer satisfaction." The Tax Book also has an excellent forum which is managed by its owners, but isn't beholden to any software provider. As an added bonus, they publish a top-notch reference book which rivals Quickfinder and IMO is much better in many ways. Enrollment is open - you don't have to be a TaxBook subscriber to participate in their forum, but they do enforce some pretty strict rules about what is & isn't appropriate (some on this Forum might even call them arbitrary). http://www.thetaxbook.com/ Quote
kcjenkins Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 Well, it's not just ATX. TaxWise does not have a message board, and now the CCH message board has been taken down too. http://tax.cchgroup.com/Community/default Quote
jainen Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 >>are there any other boards<< I go to fairmark.com a lot. It's quite different from the ATX Community, since most of its questions come from the general public instead of tax professionals. Discussions are often controversial, but usually well-sourced and technical. It has separate categories for AMT, capital gains, and pensions. Quote
OldJack Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 >>are there any other boards<< I like Quickfinder.com message board and this forum. I also post on small-business-forum.com where it is mostly the general public asking questions. The Quickfinder forum is mostly all experienced tax professionals and as such there are not so many nonsense posts and inaccurate posts as you will find on the tax book forum. I posted on the tax book forum for several years and was banned because I voiced disagreement with the moderator over his deleting a post for no offensive reason. I do NOT miss the tax book publication or their forum. Needless to say I would not recommend thetaxbook publication as in my opinion Quickfinder has the best desk references. I subscribe to 5 Quickfinder books and 1 book from thetaxbook just doesn't cut it for a practicing tax professional. Quote
JohnH Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 OldJack: I know you have a burr under your saddle about TaxBook, and probably for good reason. But The Tax Book has changed significantly as they have grown - I guess it took them a while to get out from under all the problems associated with the buyout (an maybe some non-compete issues). They are a far cry from just offering a single book. Since the TaxBook is written by the same people who produced the original Quickfinder, I expect them to continue to improve their offerings. Their Web CD is especially nice. I'm not trying to shill for them, but your reaction has the appearance of being driven a little more by emotion than by realities. Only my opinion - others' mileage may vary. Quote
OldJack Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 John, If you did a search on the tax book forum you would find that I complained about my 2006 deluxe copy of the tax book not being able to provide the necessary tax facts on all subjects needed by tax pros and was told by "whats his name" that it would never be 2 books. Last year, however, they decided to split the 2007 big book and make 2 books with only a little added so others could not say it was just rebinding. The fact is John, their books just do not compete on subject details with the Quickfinder series of books or for that matter with CCH and other summary tax books. I give them credit for having a thin tax book with thin information. As to a burr under my saddle.. no I have not even thought about that forum except for a couple of posts since then. Quote
MAMalody Posted January 14, 2008 Report Posted January 14, 2008 I have used both books and find them to be fairly similiar. They each have information the other does not and they seem to be equally accurate. I think the updating of the Tax Book is better than that of QF. They both require multiple volumes to cover the major tax divisions. I have used QF longer so I do find it a little easier to use, but I do like the WebCD setup that the Tax Book has. Quote
