joy947 Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 My client is a resident (Doctor in training) at one of the local hospitals. She is from India and arrived in the U.S. June 1, 2010. She has no Social Security or Medicare wages on her W-2, only Federal & state withholding. Her Visa has a J-1 on it as to the type of Visa. I'm not sure what the J-1 is but she felt it important to tell me! After extensive reading, I tend to want to file her return on a 1040-NR because of the non-Social Security withholding (thinking maybe the hospital payroll knows more than I do). Any thoughts? Quote
DevM Posted February 23, 2011 Report Posted February 23, 2011 J-1 is an OPT Visa where NO SS or Medicare Taxes are to be paid. you are correct in filing 1040-NR. Quote
