ILLMAS Posted April 19, 2010 Report Posted April 19, 2010 TP has a son that is still in HS and he is 19, is "student" reserved people that are in college only for EIC? Quote
GeneInAlabama Posted April 20, 2010 Report Posted April 20, 2010 The only thing I have seen just says "full time student". I don't think it makes any difference whether it is high school or college. Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted April 21, 2010 Report Posted April 21, 2010 I agree with Gene; as long as he was a full time student for at least 5 months of the year, you can use the student designation on the dependent entry page for him even if he is 19 years old and was still in high school. Quote
kcjenkins Posted April 22, 2010 Report Posted April 22, 2010 Maybe not a 'good student', but still, the tax code does not require that. Student is student. Quote
jainen Posted April 27, 2010 Report Posted April 27, 2010 >>Maybe not a 'good student'<< Kids are almost never held back for academic reasons any more. But it is very common to wait until after the fifth birthday for children to be ready for kindergarten, so children born late in the year would still be in high school at age 18. And it's not especially rare if along the way a year was missed or repeated because of illness or family disruption. Quote
