dsheth82 Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Hello Everyone, Married Filing Jointly. Husband moved to Missouri (from IL) to work at the store/business (50% owner) after 04/01/2009. He has been there since then, and has been collecting income through W2 ($13,950 for year 2009). He also had profit on the partnership of $10,218 (for year 2009). He will be staying there and working until partnership is able to sell the store. As far as state return goes, what do i need to file? Missouri part-year resident for Husband and non-resident for Wife, AND Illinois part-year resident for Husband and full-year resident for Wife? OR Missouri non-resident for Husband and non-resident for Wife, AND Illinois full-year resident for Husband and full-year resident for Wife? It's kinda little late, so i hope it makes sense. Thank you in advance! Quote
Pacun Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 File MFJ on Federal and file married filing Separate for the state and according to the dates they resided on each state. Another choice could be that you file one of the States as MFJ and the other as MFS. Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted April 14, 2010 Report Posted April 14, 2010 Just make sure the states involved will allow filing different from federal. Ohio requires the same filing status as federal. Quote
