Marie Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 The return I'm working on won't check the child tax credit for dependent. I've filled in all birthdays, ss#, 12 months in home, what am I doing wrong? I can override, but like for everything to flow like it's supposed to. Any ideas where I've messed up? Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 If you are using ATX, have you checked to be sure the birth date is correct? The birth year must be 1993 or later. I have transposed numbers before and nearly lost my whatever trying to find the error when it was something so simple. Quote
Marie Posted March 11, 2010 Author Report Posted March 11, 2010 Yes, 2008. I even put it in again. I did the overide to finish the return, but I just expect it to calculate, and I'd like to know what I did wrong. Quote
mlinder42 Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Did the child have a SS# or did they have a ITIN. Numbers that begin with an 8 or 9 will not generate child tax credit or EIC. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Fill in the taxpayer birthdate and make sure it is accurate. A dependent now must be younger than the taxpayer (unless disabled) and the program checks it. Quote

Marie, Well I see I'm not the only one with that problem. I've encountered it numerous times this year. I have to manually click on each one. Sometimes it works on its own, but more often than not I have to do it manually. Eli Quote
Pacun Posted March 11, 2010 Report Posted March 11, 2010 Entering the date of bith of the Tax Payer solves this problem. Quote

Eli I would delete the dependent all together and then re enter does this happend all the time or just this one client? I think there is something in the some line that is throwing it off Quote
