Jack from Ohio Posted February 25, 2010 Report Posted February 25, 2010 Client has 10 year old daughter with severe dyslexia. She started a special school in Sep. 2009. School is 50 miles from home. The school teaches regular curriculum and has theraputic classes for her dyslexia as well. Their pedatrician will write a "prescription" or letter of medical necessity for the school as treatment for the daughter. Question: Can the cost of school and/or mileage to and from be deducted as medical expense on Sch. A? I can't find any clear direction on the IRS site. Maybe I just missed it? Any input with ideas will be appreciated. Quote
