Why would you want to file a consolidated 1120. And if you did, other than check box 1 to indicate consolidation, why would the tax return be any different than for just one corporation. Are you expecting the tax software to do your consolidation of the numbers of each corporation? Thats an accounting job.

Ask CCH for a consolidated 1120 as a pay per return -- without any extra license fees since you're already a CCH client. I know that Intuit provides that service to ProSeries Pro clients who have a need for a Lacerte return or two to deal with something that PS can't handle. Or export each individual return to Excel to combine the numbers for your consolidated return.

I filed a 14 enitiy consolidated tax return with ATX two weeks ago. You add the Form 851 (and Form 1122 if this is the first year of consolidation). Create custom pages and put your consolidating info there (page 1 and page 4 of the 1120 on a per entity basis) and then link the totals to the proper lines on the forms. Your page one and four will look moldy because of all of the green (due to the links), but it is really not all that difficult. Not an issue for efiling because as of 11/15/07, the 851 had not been approved for efiling (at least through ATX)

When you file a 1120 consolidated tax return you are opening all corporations for audit together, when if you file separate you are not.
