cpabsd Posted February 6, 2010 Report Posted February 6, 2010 Child is home schooled and taking courses at local community college that qualify for college credits. The box is checked that she half time student. Do these costs qualify for education credit since she has not "graduated" from high school? These courses will count for her degree and in theory will reduce the amount of time needed to attend college. I say in theory becuase it may still take her 4 years, who knows? Thanks! Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Yes, because there is no requirement that you ever have to have graduated from High School. I never did that either, I went from the 11th grade directly to Univ of FL. So technically I am a high school dropout even though I have an MBA and have taught at the university level. Quote
jainen Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 >>in theory will reduce the amount of time needed to attend college<< NOT TAX One of my kids went to college with a bunch of advance placement credits. It was great in the beginning--he skipped several general ed lecture hall courses. Then half way through his senior year they tried to cut off his financial aid, saying he should have already graduated and they weren't going to support a flakey permanent student! He had to prove that the high school work wasn't the right classes in the right order to meet degree requirements. Quote
Pacun Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 I am sure you returned the hope credit you had collected from the IRS because the hope credit didn't exist. If I am not mistaken, the hope credit started in 1996. Quote
Joel Posted February 7, 2010 Report Posted February 7, 2010 Did anyone else catch the fact that KC is a GATOR? Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 8, 2010 Report Posted February 8, 2010 Actually, I started as a Gator, but ended as a Rebel, Joel. And proud of the fact. Got my Accounting degree and my MBA at Ole Miss. My husband and two of my three sons also have their degrees from Ole Miss. Quote
