NT - Extended Warranties

Looking for opinions on this.

Need to buy a new laptop and am wondering whether to purchase an extended warranty or not.

Thoughts and opinions appreciated.

I might note that this is not my main computer for taxes but often use it when going out to clients, church treasurer work, etc.

If you are a reader of Consumer Reports, they usually state that extended warranties are a waste of money.

The reasoning is that manufacturer's warranties today are pretty good. Personally, I never purchase extended

warranties.

I don't normally buy extended warranties, but I do buy them on computers that I use for work. I've used my Dell premium warranty to get a hard drive and a motherboard replaced in 24 hours during tax season.

Keep in mind also that many credit cards double the manufacturer's warranty -- so check with your card issuer first.

And many warranties for laptops come in two flavors - those that cover the usual computer failures and those that also cover accidents such as spilled coffee, dropping the laptop, etc.
