sshams95 Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Just curious to know if tax preparers charge clients for filing 1040 amendments for claiming first time homebuyer tax credit only. Do you charge? If so, how much? Quote
Gail in Virginia Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 Of course I charge. I have to completely re-do the return, and prepare copies to paper-file instead of e-filing. The only time I don't charge to file an amended return is if we are filing to correct my mistake. If I originally prepared the return, and don't have to re-enter all the information i would charge a nominal fee of around $50. If I did not do the return, it is just like I am filing their return for the first time in terms of the time that it takes me and I would charge accordingly. Quote
kcjenkins Posted December 2, 2009 Report Posted December 2, 2009 I agree with Gail. The only reason not to charge if it's being filed to correct an error that I made. If the error or omission was the client's, then it is only reasonable to charge for fixing it. Quote
