joelgilb Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 Received a call this afternoon. Caller blocked his phone number and would only give his first name. Thought I would share the conversations. Note that the conversation below is not a joke, but the truth. Caller - Hi are you guys CPA's and Tax Attorneys? Me - Yes, what can I do for you? Caller - Well I have a TAX question? Me: - This is Joel, What is your name? Caller,- I would rather not say? Me - I would like to know who I am talking to? Caller - You can call me Mark Me - Ok Mark, what is your question? Caller - (now talking at about 250 miles per minute) - Well I have a neighbor that is a retired IRS agent, that lives in a town home next to me and his water is leaking into my unit. And well I was wondering if I sue him or report him will he cause me t get audited? Me - What? Caller - Well I was just wondering if you know if he still would have connections and could be vindictive because I go after him for the damage he is causing to my unit. Me - I really can't answer that question. Caller - Well have you ever had clients that have complained about an IRS agent they know that has done something to get revenge or something lie that? Me - Again I can't answer that, you have a nice day. And then I hung up. Quote
mcb39 Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 That made me decide that I would rather go and prepare dinner than work with the public any more today. Thanks for sharing, Joel. Seems that some people have too much time on their hands. I have several clients named Mark. I hope your caller was none of them. Quote
JohnH Posted September 15, 2009 Report Posted September 15, 2009 How about this response? "Well, Mark, you should know that IRS has the phones of all tax preparers tapped so they already know you're trying to get this agent in trouble. How many calls like this have you made before you called me?" Quote
joelgilb Posted September 15, 2009 Author Report Posted September 15, 2009 he was probably wearing an aluminum hat Quote
taxxcpa Posted September 19, 2009 Report Posted September 19, 2009 Tell him to call the IRS and ask if they audit people that they don't like. I'm sure you would get an answer you could depend upon. Quote
jainen Posted September 24, 2009 Report Posted September 24, 2009 >>not a joke, but the truth<< Maybe so -- but I find it hard to believe his name is really Mark. Quote
