Edward Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Saw this under "Smart Spending Blog - MSN MONEY" today: Is this an idea whose time has come? A new bill in the U.S. House would allow pet owners to deduct up to $3500. for "qualified pet-care expenses" for household pets, including vet bills. Would this so-called HAPPY (Humanity and Pets Partnered Through the Years) Act give pet owners a break they deserve? It might encourage more people to adopt abandoned or neglected pets? With 2 dogs this would be great for me. Your thoughts? Quote

JohnH Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Can't wait to hear the questions from clients if this went anywhere. "Does my chinchilla count? How about my kid's turtles, ant farm, boa constrictor, etc?" Quote
joans Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Depends on what they consider "Qualified" Always the stipulation. I think it is a good idea for the people who can't/don't have/want kids. Their pets are their kids. Here's hoping:)) Quote
kcjenkins Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 Not to mention all the 'empty nesters' that now have only their pets for companionship. Hey, how about HOH status for anyone with three or more pets? Quote
GeneInAlabama Posted August 18, 2009 Report Posted August 18, 2009 A while back my cousin asked if there was any way he could get more deductions. I told him if he could get a social security number for his pet parrot and his dog, I might be able to help him out. Quote
