Booger Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Good morning everybody. Although this is NOT a tax question, I have confidence that the computer-savvy users on this board could help me. This problem just cropped up about 3 weeks ago. I am able to get on the internet, but when I try to access Hotmail, nothing happens. However, on my PC at the office, I have no problem accessing Hotmail. I tried disabling my security software, but still no Hotmail. Any suggestions? Thanks in advance. Booger Quote
Lion EA Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Don't use Hotmail, but maybe uninstall and then redownload Hotmail. (Something in your file is missing or not going to the right place.) Good luck. Quote
Booger Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 Thanks for your response, Lion. Don't think I can uninstall/reinstall, since Hotmail is accessible directly on MSN's browser. I'll call Dell (my computer maker).....since it WAS accessible about 3 weeks ago, I'm thinking that there is a setting on the PC that either needs to be turned on or off. Booger Quote
kcjenkins Posted August 3, 2009 Report Posted August 3, 2009 Can you access other email, like Yahoo, Gmail, or Chrome? And if so, can you then open Hotmail in one of the tabs? Quote
Booger Posted August 3, 2009 Author Report Posted August 3, 2009 No, I haven't tried opening another type of e-mail. Will try tonight when I get home. If I can, then I'll try to open Hotmail from the tab. Thanks, KC. Booger Quote

Booger Are you using Internet Explorer? Under Tools - Internet Options - Security there is a place to list trusted sites. Quote
Lion EA Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 mail2web.com is a site that's supposed to let you access you e-mail account with any provider on their web site. Just an interim suggestion to let you get into your mail account to see if you need to adjust settings. Quote
Booger Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 Thanks again, Lion. Last night was interesting. Spent 3 1/2 hours on the phone with a Dell support guy located in India (told me the weather has been very nice there). From 8 until 11:30 (YAWN!!). He still couldn't figure it out. What I ended up doing is setting up a new e mail account with my DSL provider. I just finished sending a blanket e mail to all my contacts notifying them of this change. Catherine Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 <snip> Tired and Frustrated Booger Hang in there, Booger. You still have your love for me to sustain you. And my sympathies on the annoying computer problem. It's just astounding how much unproductive time these 'time-saving' machines can cost us, isn't it? Catherine Quote
Booger Posted August 4, 2009 Author Report Posted August 4, 2009 Thanks, Catherine. This problem was REALLY WEIRD. I could access the internet, access various websites (Amazon, etc), but it would not open hotmail. Booger XXOO Quote
TAXBILLY Posted August 4, 2009 Report Posted August 4, 2009 Evidently a common problem. Maybe some of these can help: http://www.dogpile.com/dogpile/ws/results/...=7?_IceUrl=true taxbilly Quote

Medlin Software, Dennis Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 Don't use HM, but when similar problems crop up... there are two things I do first. Bad Cache. Clear the browser's cache and try again. Spoiled Cookies. Clear the cookies from your browser and try again. Quote
ed_accountant Posted August 6, 2009 Report Posted August 6, 2009 You should also have a backup internet browser like Mozilla Firefox. If it doesn't work in the first browser try the backup one.. Quote
