cred65 Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Anyone have any knowledge of the conficker virus? MY ISP is suggesting I may have it as I am having difficulty with my old antivirus software and can't download their provided security suite I have the same problem. The virus blocks incoming updates of antivirus software. My IT guy could not remove it at my office and will need to take it to his shop and attempt to clean it out. This is a full day job. In the meantime I will be installing a new computer since the infected one is about 5 years old. Quote

JohnH Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Thanks Eric. That's pretty neat. Does it matter how far away I stand when looking at the chart? (I think it's telling me my vision is 20/80) Quote
Lion EA Posted May 6, 2009 Report Posted May 6, 2009 Our friends at VMSUS offer Conficker virus help, also. Quote
joelgilb Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 Lets see 3 days of dealing with this thing, 3 hours on the phone with Microsoft, who went to monumental efforts to help, but were unsuccessful I am afraid. All virus checking software sites Blocked Blocked and Blocked again! Finally downloaded Avast on a clean machine. Tried to install it and whoa, the drive I tried to install to BLOCKED! But changed the installation software files name and it installed. Virus definitions old so was only able to partially clean it out. Tried to update - BLOCKED! then went and manually downloaded the update on a clean machine and through a monumental effort and several uses of Task Manager to end processes (with difficulty) was able to manually update Avast. 5 hours and 2 scans later it cleaned the virus out. No wonder Microsoft is offering a bounty for information on who created this one. Quote
joelgilb Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 and Oh, I can see the images Eric posted the url to now! Quote
joelgilb Posted May 7, 2009 Author Report Posted May 7, 2009 And I just checked the links KC added and apparently I had Conficker E! Quote
JohnH Posted May 7, 2009 Report Posted May 7, 2009 Maybe now you'll stay away from those sites you shouldn't be viewing.. Seriously, glad you got it resolved - it could happen to any of us with just an inadvertent click of the mouse at the wrong time. Quote
