EA EXAM

Anybody studing for the new EA exam? Any good ideas for study materials. I am in VA. How tough is this test and how much of the specific calculations must I remember or is it a lot of basic theory? Thanks

I took the EA exam several years ago, and the format has changed considerably since then. However, the Virginia Society of Enrolled Agents has offered review classes in the past which I found to be very helpful. To the best of my knowledge they still do (I think they are partnered with Gleim now for this, but I am not sure.) You might check their website for information about such classes.

Also, I don't know what part of Virginia you are in, but there are several local chapters throughout the state that meet regularly to discuss tax law and might have members who can offer suggestions about how they passed the exam.

I took the EA exam before it was computerized. I used Gleim for the review and passed the first time. I also used Gleim for the CPA exam in 2006, I only had to retake 2 of the sections. The CPA exam is computerized and I would think the EA exam is now given in a similar format. I was very happy with Gleim for both exams. I think their study material really gets you ready for the exam. The support was great and the prices were very competitive.
