michaelmars Posted April 14, 2009 Report Posted April 14, 2009 Rejected returns/extensions: If the IRS rejects any of your returns or extensions, you are given an additional amount of time to correct and resubmit as follows: • 1040/1041 - A corrected return or extension must be retransmitted no later than April 20 to be considered timely filed. • 1065 - A corrected extension must be retransmitted no later than April 20 and a corrected return must be retransmitted no later than May 5 to be considered timely filed. The following partnership states do not conform to the IRS 20-day perfection period based upon information received from the states: • Massachusetts and New Jersey rejected returns - Allow 5 business days to resubmit rejected returns and obtain approval. • Minnesota and Maryland rejected returns - Allow 5 calendar days to resubmit rejected returns and obtain approval. • New York rejected returns and extensions - New York has no perfection period for rejected returns. They must be filed and approved by the due date to be considered timely. • Pennsylvania rejected returns - Pennsylvania allows 10 calendar days to resubmit rejected returns and obtain approval. Paper returns - If the IRS rejects any of your returns or extensions and the return does not fall into an efile mandate and you choose to file a paper return or extension the deadlines are as follows: • 1040/1041 - A paper return or extension must be filed by the later of the due date of the return or 10 calendar days after the date of the electronic portion was rejected. For example, a return rejected on April 14 would be due April 24 if filing by paper. • 1065 extensions - A paper extension must be filed by the later of the due date of the return or 10 calendar days after the date the electronic portion was rejected. • 1065 returns - A paper return must be filed by May 5 to be considered timely filed. joanmcq Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I file extensions for any that are that close to the filing date. then there is no stress waiting for that ack. Quote
taxtrio Posted April 15, 2009 Report Posted April 15, 2009 I find it reassuring to efile. I know within a short period of time that it has been accepted by IRS. Then I know there is no problem with Soc Sec #'s , DOB's etc. And if there is a problem you know right away, can fix it and get on with your day. I hated having a client call me 6 or 8 weeks after they had filed when they got a letter saying it would be another 6 or 8 weeks after they answered the letter before they would see their refund. Good old days??? I don't think so. Find out right away, fix it , re-send it and then the client is happy. A few days delay in getting their refund is better than waiting until the summer to get it. I'll efile anyday over mailing returns. Once you get into the swing of it .... it's really a breeze. Taxtrio Quote
