Clinet worked for an apartment compley as leasing agent and gave him an apt to live in as a perk.

Aprtment gave client both W2 for wages and a 1099 Misc for housing.

How do I put this in the program. Do I need to use a C ez. or just line 21 other income. The amount on the 1099 is box 7 nonemployee compensation.

Thanks in advance,

Linda and buddy

The IRS will always assume that any income in box 7 of the 1099 MISC is self-employment income. Sounds like this company incorrectly issued the 1099-Misc. They could have included this in his W-2 wages. I think it would be best to contact the apartment complex and ask them to correct their filings. If you put this as other income on line 21, you can be sure to get a notice from the IRS. JMHO

This is housing allowance for convenience of employer. It is taxable for SS, but not for income tax.

Report it on the SE as housing allowance. Any amount over the actual allowance must be reported as line 21 income.
