neilbrink Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Client moved from Illinois to Rhode Island after graduating from college in June, 2008. She works only in Maine and has no income in Rhode Island. Her employer withholds only Maine state tax. I will complete a Maine nonresident return, but will she need to complete a Rhode Island return also if she does not have income in Rhode Island? Your help will be appreciated. Thanks. Neil Quote

David1980 Posted March 17, 2009 Report Posted March 17, 2009 Rhode Island will also tax the income earned when the taxpayer was a resident of Rhode Island. There is a credit for taxes paid to other states. If you're doing a part-year RI return, the credit is on RI-1040NR Schedule V part 2 lines 18-27. Quote
