jrollo Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 A client who is a union official takes the board members of the union and other local officals out to dinner or drinks. He has all the receipts and states that it is to discuss issues related to his union and the industry he works within. Are the meals and entertainment cost deductible? Thank you Jeff Quote
TAXBILLY Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 Is he an employee of the union and if he is does the union require that he does this? It would be highly unusual for the union not to reimburse him if it is part of his job. taxbilly Quote
jrollo Posted March 7, 2009 Author Report Posted March 7, 2009 Taxbilly: He is employeed by the union, however he is not reimbursed for the meals or the entertainment. Since he is a high level union offical (VP) I believe this would be part of this job assignment. Need help on this one. Thanks you Taxbilly Quote
TAXBILLY Posted March 7, 2009 Report Posted March 7, 2009 To protect yourself I would suggest he get something written from the union that he is required to do this. If he ever gets audited he will blame you. taxbilly Quote
