cpabsd Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 A friend has an aquaintance who claims to be exempt from Federal income tax due to being a decendant of a person who is on the official role of an American Indian tribe. Any one out there ever have this come up? Of course, now my friend wants to investigate as her husband has Indian blood. I cannot find any thing listing this as true. Thanks. Quote
Medlin Software, Dennis Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 New one on me, and I have a CDIB card... There are likely things to consider if living on/near and working on a reservation. Pub 8845. Never living on/near a reservation, I have no actual experience with this. Quote
JRS Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 This is what I found on the IRS web site: http://ftp.irs.gov/pub/irs-drop/rr-06-20.pdf These are the requirements for California, to be exempt from Ca income taxes. http://www.ftb.ca.gov/forms/misc/674.pdf Quote
RitaB Posted March 2, 2009 Report Posted March 2, 2009 Bonnie - I have had two that brought letters saying some particular income was not taxable, but neither brought any documentation regarding the income! So, I don't really know what they received that was not taxable, but their other income was taxable. -- Rita Quote
mcb39 Posted March 3, 2009 Report Posted March 3, 2009 In Wisconsin, I believe, their per capita payments are not taxable if they live on the reservation. I don't think it has anything to do with Federal taxes. Quote
