Randall Posted February 22, 2009 Report Posted February 22, 2009 The clergy worksheet in ATX is still in draft form waiting IRS approval. I've compared the draft to the worksheets in Pub 517 and I don't see any differences. Is it ok to attach these worksheets to Form 8453? Or do I need to wait for final approval. Return has not been efiled yet. And I know I need to send the 8453 within 3 days of acceptance of efiling. But do I have to wait on efiling the return until the worksheets are approved? Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 23, 2009 Report Posted February 23, 2009 I printed them out the other day, for a pastor client, and mine did not have 'draft' on them. I attached them and sent them in already. The form did generate a message that it was not ready for efiling, but the form itself looked fine. So I took that to just mean that it had to be sent in on paper, which the 8453 does. And the program added that form, so I took it that way. Quote

But, I think you're right, KC, they don't say "draft", so I'm printing and going forth. I was thinking for days, "Why in the world are these not ready?!" That message needs to say, "Hey you have to send clergy worksheets with 8453 if you're e-filing" if that's what ATX means. Quote
JohnH Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 I paper filed one with the worksheet about three weeks ago - haven't heard anything yet. In the past I always used a home-grown Excel spreadsheet and never had a problem, so it seems logical that the ATX worksheet would be fine for paper filing. Quote
kcjenkins Posted February 25, 2009 Report Posted February 25, 2009 Sure, it's not actually a "tax form", it is a worksheet. They tell you to use the worksheet from the Pub, so why not use the one in the program, which is just like the one in the Pub? Quote
