Inconsistency in Carryover of State Employer ID

Has anyone else here seen cases where the State Employer ID (bottom left on W-2 input page) doesn't roll over and must be inputted again manually? It happens on maybe 1 out of 3 returns. I'm just wondering if there is a particular reason for this.

Furthermore, my state use the same number as the Federal ID Number. I wish there was an option to use the same number automatically for the state employer ID number, after inputting the federal number.

It's just one of those little ideas to save time and wear on the fingers.... :mellow:

Do you think maybe there were spaces after the last number? Or a space in front? Tax Software programs are weird like that, everything has to be perfect or it will not work perfectly. Other than that I would have no idea why the ID's do not rollover.

Generally, if the state number is the same as the federal number, you can skip inputing that at all. I've done it for years, with never a single problem with efiling. Seems the 'default' assumption is that these numbers are the same, so I only input them if they are different.

half the time the state number doesn't get input and my state is NOT the same as the federal. I have never had any problem with going thru without state number

Yeah thanks. I may avoid entering it in from now. It's one more thing that can go wrong. I didn't realize it would simply default to the FID if nothing was entered.
