GeorgeM Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 I have a client who filed a return last year, only income was unemployment compensation of about $4200.00. She never received a stimulus payment, can she file a -0- taxable income return this year and get the credit this year. Also have one that has only SSI and didn't file a return last year, can she apply for it this year? I have been reading up on it and it seems that both should be able to do it, but TaxWise is not bringing it in on their worksheet. Before I call support I want to make sure they are eligible. Thank you Quote
David1980 Posted February 3, 2009 Report Posted February 3, 2009 For the first one, if she does not qualify based on the 2008 income she cannot get the credit this year. The Recovery Rebate Credit is based on 2008 income. Now, if they have $3000 of qualifying income they may be able to qualify (like social security.) For the second one, SSI is not qualifying income. Social security is. SSA versus SSI. SSI is supplemental security income and does not qualify them for the RRC. Quote
