jasdlm Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 First efile this year . . . says my EFIN is not registered for my client number, although I called last week, held forever, and verified that everything was 'all set' because I had this same problem last year. AAAAARGH! Quote
jasdlm Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 39 minutes and 32 sec . . . and 1 tax return later . . . still waiting Quote
taxbrewster Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 You have to fax a letter to atx support 800.834.4859 with your efin letter from the IRS and your customer number and they will add it in 24hours. Quote
jasdlm Posted January 29, 2009 Author Report Posted January 29, 2009 Thanks, taxbrewster. I had done that, but somehow they didn't enter it (even though they told me over the phone that it was all set up). After 50 minutes, supposedly it's now been entered. I'll try to resubmit soon. Thanks for allowing the Vent! Quote
Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I don't see why they can't just link to the IRS database which has all the EFIN's, so that way when the EFIN is entered in, it will automatically be checked with the IRS system and shown as correct or incorrect. At that point you could just e-file, or change accordingly and then send. Would be a great way to cut down on the people calling in for this error and would relieve alot of headaches most of you experience. It really doesn't seem it would take all that much effort to create the code for that. You guys should put that in as a suggestion and maybe they'll implement it for next year. Quote
taxbrewster Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 yeah, no problem i did the same thing. sat on hold for 45mins for them to tell me all i had to do was fax in the letter... once i did it was fixed the next morning. Quote

Pass that suggestion to Mel so he can incorporate that into the new Pineapple and Coconut software. Tom Lodi, CA Quote
Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I'm new to this discussion, but did know that Mel was on his way to creating new tax software. Was that the actual name he was going to call it? And, are there archived posts where this topic has been discussed? Quote
BulldogTom Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Definately not the name of the software. My little joke. It is still un-named as far as I know. The last time Mel posted something about it, he said he could not get it to beta in time for the 2008 filing season. It has been discussed on and off for over a year on this board. There are people on this board (me included) that would love to see it come to market. Tom Lodi, CA Quote

Gail in Virginia Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I think a lot of us would like to see an alternative software that is more along the lines of what ATX used to be, but I hope that we are not putting too much pressure on Mel to have the perfect software that makes everybody happy all the time - I don't think that can be done, no matter how good he is! That would be great but does the IRS make that database accessible? Can't use what you don't have. Quote
Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 They make everything else available. Why can't they offer a link to the database? Not access to the database, but just a link to check against all EFIN's used. I think it would be easy, but that's just me. Quote

Not access to the database, but just a link to check against all EFIN's used. I think it would be easy, but that's just me. Not to be argumentative, but like what? I've just accepted the fact that the software can't check things like the SSA masterfile to validate SSN to names and dates of death. Or compare the customer's W-2 to the one the IRS receives from an employer because those aren't available. If there are resources that might make the software better, please share. I'll write up and email the suggestion. Quote
joelgilb Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 GO MEL! How about we start a little contest to help name Mel's tax software? What do you think Mel? My first vote "Igneous Force Taxware" Quote
Lion EA Posted February 1, 2009 Report Posted February 1, 2009 Marvelous Mel's Taxware. No DIYers Allowed Taxware. AntiATX Taxware. Only Pros Taxware or OPT for short. Quote
