Cathy Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 This year, taxpayers will receive an Economic Stimulus Payment. This is a very exciting new program that I will explain using the Q and A format: Q. What is an Economic Stimulus Payment? A. It is money that the federal government will send to taxpayers. Q. Where will the government get this money? A. From taxpayers. Q. So the government is giving me back my own money? A. Only a smidgen. Q. What is the purpose of this payment? A. The plan is that you will use the money to purchase a high-definition TV set, thus stimulating the economy. Q. But isn't that stimulating the economy of China? A. Shut up. Below is some helpful advice on how to best help the U.S. economy by spending your stimulus check wisely: If you spend that money at Wal-Mart, all the money will go to China. If you spend it on gasoline it will go to the Arabs. If you purchase a computer it will go to India. If you purchase fruit and vegetables it will go to Mexico, Honduras, and Guatemala (unless you buy organic). If you buy a car it will go to Japan. If you purchase useless crap it will go to Taiwan. And none of it will help the American economy. We need to keep that money here in America. You can keep the money in America by spending it at yard sales, going to a baseball game, or spend it on prostitutes, beer and wine (domestic ONLY), funerals, weddings, or tattoos, since those are the only businesses still in the US. JRS Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 Are Bud and Miller still domestic? Oh, I forgot about Molson/Coors. I like micro brews better anyhow. Quote
Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 You need to try some of the thick ales like Killian's or especially Sam Adams. Those are some good ones too! Quote

Catherine Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I had a beer at Christmas called "Naughty Elf"....a very dark beer....half of a bottle made me a little woozy. My favorite is Samuel Smith's Oatmeal Stout. Super dark; yum! Quote
Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 29, 2009 Report Posted January 29, 2009 I've never heard of either of those two beers. I don't drink often, but beer is my favorite of all when I do. Will have to keep my eyes out for those and give 'em a try sometime. Quote
bstaxes Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I like my beer on the light side Bud or Coors, but scotch is really good. Quote

Virtual Managed Solutions Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 When I go with the harder stuff, I tend to lean towards Southern Comfort or a little Jack Daniels. Nothing beats an old glass of whiskey! Quote
Ray in Ohio Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 Geez.... I'm almost gettin a buzz from reading this thread!!! (any banana flavored drinks??) Quote
jainen Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 >> Q. Where will the government get this money?<< >> A. From taxpayers. << You are apparently not familiar with the budget process as most recently practiced by the federal government. Unlike the states, which aren't allowed to run deficits, the U.S. Treasury can spend an unlimited amount of money without regard to whether the money actually exists or not. Quote

Even continuing printing it after we run out of trees. Oh, I forgot, we can recycle. Quote
BulldogTom Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I need to push the wine. Robert Mondavi Woodbridge appellation. Great quality at a great price. The winery is about 2 miles from my home. Unfortunately, we lost Mr. Mondavi in the last year. Tom Lodi, CA Quote

Daune/CA Posted January 30, 2009 Report Posted January 30, 2009 I see that the "Governator" is suggesting a wine tax that would make "2 Buck Chuck" not 2 bucks anymore. What's a guy gonna do  Quote
TAXBILLY Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Drink California wine! taxbilly Quote
Catherine Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 Drink California wine! taxbilly A good friend tells me she has never gone wrong picking a new wine by choosing the most attractive label available. It certainly worked at her husband's surprise birthday party last fall. Catherine Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted January 31, 2009 Report Posted January 31, 2009 The best tip I received regarding Austratian wines is to choose one with an animal on the label. In Reno on vacation last year, we followed that hint and bought Mattie's Perch Cabernet. The koala bear was adorable! And the wine, at a bargain price, was quite good. Quote
