Janitor Bob Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 My clients (married couple with 5 kids) gets to claim one of their children every other year only....Since 2007 was not their year, they only claimed 4 kids on their 2007 return, thus, their economic stimulus payment was $2,400.00. Since they claim all 5 kids in 2008, do they get that $300.00 as the recovery rebate credit? Quote

Janitor Bob Posted January 23, 2009 Author Report Posted January 23, 2009 Yes. Ain't life good sometimes? Tom Lodi, CA Thanks, Tom...This is what I suspected....but like I mentioned in my other post.....The worksheet asks in question #4 if either taxpayer or spouse was in the armed forces during 2008....."If No, stop, you cannot take the credit"......WHAT?! kcjenkins Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 If they have SSNs, you were to 'skip' that question, JB. Quote
TAXMAN Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 What if the other parent got the credit for the missing child? What then? Quote
jainen Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 >>if the other parent got the credit for the missing child?<< Not possible--the Recovery Rebate Credit was not available before filing a return for tax year 2008. Quote
mcb39 Posted January 23, 2009 Report Posted January 23, 2009 Yes, do the worksheet, they will get the credit for the other child even though someone else got the credit for that child based on the 2007 returns. Quote
