I'm preparing an amended return for missed SSA-1099.  There is a balance due.  Original return was efiled and refund was direct deposit.  Can the balance due on the amendment be direct debit from bank account?  I see that option on the 1040 EF Info tab, but if selected, how does IRS know the bank info - is it sent as part of the efile transmission (even though it doesn't show on the 1040-X) as it did with the original filing?  Thanks

direct deposit has been allowed on an electronically filed 1040-X for a couple of years (IRS notice February 2023--no mention of direct debit).  I would be concerned that direct debit might not happen by the chosen date.  My understanding is that e-filed amended returns do not jump the queue, they just get there quicker.
