Yoana Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 I'm desperate for help because I'm really going crazy and I don't know what else to do. My client also lives in Mexico and received their SSA-1042S, which states that their benefits were $12,551 and they had $3,202 withheld. They are not a resident for tax or immigration purposes. I'm filing the 1040-NR, but no tax exemption applies, and in the end, they still owe money. I've already submitted it about five times, and it keeps getting rejected. Each time, I've attached more annexes, and now I don't even know how to proceed. I have the Schedule OI, NEC, and 8339. Please guide me. Quote
Lion EA Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 I don't have any foreign clients, but I do know someone who literally wrote the book: 1040NR? or 1040? U.S. Income Tax Returns for... by Jean Mammen, EA It's available on Amazon and all your favorite places, so you could have it tomorrow! I think the 7th Edition is the latest version, so make sure you get at least the 7th Edition. Also, if your issue is NOT how to prepare the return but more how to prepare the return in ATX for e-filing, you may need to call tech support. Hopefully, someone with international clients will pop on here today to help you. 1 1 Quote
Lion EA Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 An email from Jean Mammen: "...it's the 7th. The tax code hasn't changed anything except the dollar amounts of things like the standard deduction - which the software knows. Those numbers the user can write over, if they want to see the exact number in the text." (She's looking for a new editor to replace the one who retired, so it'll be some time before an 8th edition is published.) Quote
Lion EA Posted March 6 Report Posted March 6 And, here's an on-demand webinar: https://my-cpe.com/courses/1040-nr-or-1040-us-income-tax-returns-for-noncitizens-1623855867?opentab=ondemand#subscribe_form Jean also teaches via CCH CPELink, but I didn't see anything on-demand as I skimmed over the topics... 1 Quote
