I use ProSystem  fx Tax, but NOT Practice.

Try Chat which answers a lot faster than calling them. Or, if you can put it aside until tomorrow, put in a ticket and you should receive your call or email by tomorrow (maybe). Or, often when you call and the wait times are long, you can request a callback as a specific time of your choosing.

See if they have a knowledgebase article on launching the tray. (I have no idea what the tray is!!)

CCH does have a ProSystem fx message board for users. I don't use it often, but you could try that.

Not sure if any of this will help, this AI answer also came up from a search of the error:

A "ProSystem FX tray error" typically means that the "Practice Management Tray" within the CCH ProSystem fx Tax software isn't functioning properly, preventing you from accessing certain features or potentially causing issues with logging into the program; this usually appears as a message stating that the "tray must be running to use this feature.".

Common causes of a ProSystem FX tray error:

  • Not properly logged in: Ensure you are logged into the Practice Management Tray properly.
  • Tray not started at Windows Startup: Check settings, make sure the tray is set to automatically start when Windows boots up.
  • Corrupted settings: Sometimes, incorrect configurations within the tray settings can lead to errors.
  • Software update issues: Outdated or incomplete updates to ProSystem fx could cause tray malfunctions.
  • How to troubleshoot a ProSystem FX tray error:
  • Restart the program: Close and reopen CCH ProSystem fx Tax.

Check tray settings:

  • Access the Practice Management Tray settings.
  • Verify that the "Start Practice Tray during Windows Startup" option is checked.
  • Check for any incorrect configurations and adjust accordingly.

Restart your computer: Sometimes a simple reboot can resolve temporary glitches.

Run a software update: Check for available updates for CCH ProSystem fx Tax and install them if needed.

Contact support: If the issue persists, reach out to CCH support for further assistance.
