Dan Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 How big can pdf files be to be able to e-file a return? I have 1035 pdf KB(s). I have a federal return. I have a Kansas return that requires a 1040 return (516 pdf KB). I have an Oklahoma return that requires a Kansas return with-386 pdf KB(s) and 4 other documents with a total of 133 pdf KB(s). A total of 1035 pdf KB(s). Quote
jklcpa Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 This support page for ATX 2023 says 256KB, and I couldn't find anything for the current year. Perhaps check the user manual? Anyway, here is the page for ATX 2023: https://files.cchsfs.com/doc/atx/2023/Help/Content/Both-SSource/PDF Attachments/Attaching PDF Forms and Other Documents to Returns.htm CCH Access and ProSystem fx allows up to 1 GB with each individual pdf not to exceed 60 MB. https://support.cch.com/oss/ml/kb/solution/000154306 If you haven't reduced the size of the pdfs, you can either scan documents at a lower resolution, or for those returns as attachments, open the document and click "file" and then "save as". One of the choices in the "save as" function is to save the file as a reduced size pdf that should make it a lot smaller. Quote
Dan Posted February 13 Author Report Posted February 13 I downloaded adobe acrobat on my computer to see if worked better than my printer in reducing the size of pdf files and so far, my printer works better. I still have with the printer 1035 pdf KB(s). I wish I knew how to get adobe acrobat to work better. I set the printer resolution at 75dpi (the lowest) to make these pdf files. I also worked with file size and quality under advanced settings. If I change the file size and quality, I will not be able to read the pdf correctly. In ATX I followed the instructions on page 314 of creating and attaching pdfs of completed forms regarding the Federal return (516 kb) and the Kansas return (386 kb). Quote
Lion EA Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 I thought the tax software sent appropriate returns when required, such as a federal return to a state or a NR state to your resident state to support a credit for taxes paid. That would reduce the number of files you'd have to attach and reduce your attachment KBs. 2 Quote
Randall Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 Check the EF form for the state. There should be a tab to show which forms are included with the efiling. You have to create the efile before this shows up. This is for ATX. Quote
Abby Normal Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 You can find software to shrink the size of PDFs. Some of it is free. Are you printing to PDF or scanning to PDF, because I just printed pages 1 and 2 of a 1040 to PDF and it was only 262 KB. State probably doesn't the the 1040 Schedule forms. Quote
KenO Posted February 13 Report Posted February 13 I have attached PDFs over a megabyte without problems. Once, I had one that was too big and received a cryptic efile rejection error. Ultimately, I shrank it down further with Acrobat, and it went through. 1 Quote
