wendybooth Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Shameful!!! I really failed!!! Quote
MargaretMort Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 I didn't fail but I wasn't impressed with myself. However, I have my handy 20,000 words (All secretarial students had to have one back in the olden days) sitting right next to my monitor so I can check anything I think I am mis-spelling. ^_^ Quote
mcb39 Posted November 15, 2008 Report Posted November 15, 2008 Shame on Me!!! I have always prided myself on my spelling ability. How do they say that? "Pride goes before the fall........" My score wasn't terrible, but much worse than I expected. That was a good test. Quote
kcjenkins Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Gee, no one is listing a score. I'll admit it, I only got 19 right. But frankly, that was not bad for me, as I depend way too much on my spell checker. Thank goodness for ieSpell.com Quote
jainen Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 >>no one is listing a score<< Umm, I got 14. Missed 11. But wait--two of them, acknowledgement and judgement, are PERFECTLY acceptable alternate spellings. And supercede and procede are the same mistake, so it's not fair to ding me twice. Quote
mcb39 Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Umm, I got 17. Missed 8. Also erred on acknowledgement and judgement. Maybe it depends on when we went to Grammar school. Quote
kcjenkins Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 "acknowledgement and judgement, are PERFECTLY acceptable alternate spellings" In that case I'll change my score to 21. THANKS, that makes me feel better. Quote
Lion EA Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 21. One I think I read wrong and one I changed from right to wrong and a couple of bad guesses and a couple of good guesses. But, I'm old enough to have grown up WITHOUT spell check, except for looking it up in a dictionary. Three misspellings in a paper or test dropped the grade one unit. And, I was news editor of our high school newspaper so did a lot of proofreading. Now, of course, I strive to get the NUMBERS right and have forgotten how to spell lots of words that were a part of my written vocabulary in years past. Quote
bstaxes Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 Got 21 that really surprised me because I would tell my student when they asked how to spell something, "I can't spell that is why I teach math". On my desk is my instant spelling dictionary from college and that pages are really worn. I don't always trust spell check. Quote
Catherine Posted November 16, 2008 Report Posted November 16, 2008 I got 19 correct. But I think I would have done better had I been asked _how_ to spell word thus-and-such, rather than have to parse tiny differences and pick one. I started second-guessing myself and (as is usual) that caused me to pick incorrectly. There was one word that I used to get wrong all the time that I got correct, though, so that at least is good. Gail in Virginia Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 I got 21 correct, but I expected to do better. On the other hand, those were hard! Quote
Margaret CPA in OH Posted November 17, 2008 Report Posted November 17, 2008 23 for me. I used to do proofreading part time so am actually a bit embarrassed to have missed 2. Quote
Julie Posted November 22, 2008 Report Posted November 22, 2008 As a former proofreader and one-time spelling bee champion, I too am embarrassed by a score of 23, although, as mentioned above, at least one was an acceptable alternate spelling. I guess it's been too long since it really mattered. Either that, or I've been reading too much Internet and not enough books. Quote
rick in cal Posted November 29, 2008 Report Posted November 29, 2008 I took the test with complete confidence and scored 100%. The correct answer to each question is E! Quote
