Eric Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 I have taken on a bunch of website hosting customers and am beginning to outgrow my two current hosting providers. There is a good chance that I will be moving all of my sites to a to a single beefy server located at an ultra-beefy data center. The move will happen, the question is when. (don't worry, it wont be during tax season) Is the board sufficiently slow right now that this would be a good time to do it? Should I wait until after tax season? This should be the last time I have to do this (at least, it better be, it's almost as fun as moving into a new house)
JRS Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 To me, now would be a good time. It is well before any software releases, which can bring a lot of questions.
JohnH Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 This is a good time. What about costs to you - is it time for us to chip in some more?
Eric Posted October 31, 2008 Author Report Posted October 31, 2008 No! no more money! By consolidating my two hosting accounts into one larger account, I'll be coming out almost even as far as monthly hosting bills go.
Margaret CPA in OH Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Now is a good time for me, too, although I may have minor withdrawal symptoms! And don't be shy about money. I imagine many of us wouldn't mind if you had a little profit rather than just breaking even.
zeke Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 >>I'll be coming out almost even as far as monthly hosting bills go. << Not nearly gopod enough for me. The check is in the mail! z
kcjenkins Posted October 31, 2008 Report Posted October 31, 2008 Now's a good time, it will only get more hectic in the next month. And I sent some more money through PayPal yesterday. I know you don't want a profit, Eric, but that does not mean you can not have a small cushion, either.
Lion EA Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Thank you for taking such good care of us!
Eric Posted November 1, 2008 Author Report Posted November 1, 2008 When I say almost even, I mean the two old hosting accounts will cost about the same as the one new one, give or take a few bucks. Keep in mind that this site isn't the reason for the move, my other sites are. There is plenty in the PayPal account to continue paying for this site's portion of resources for a while, but the donations are appreciated. Sometime this weekend, you may see that the forum is in maintenance mode. It can take up to 24 hours for the switch to complete, but it's usually less. I'm sorry about the disruption, but the new home will provide lots of growing room.
Tax Prep by Deb Posted November 1, 2008 Report Posted November 1, 2008 Thanks for making this available to all of us. Whatever needs to be done to keep it up and running is greatly appreciated, and I too will be hitting the donate button in the next couple of weeks! Deb!
Eric Posted November 3, 2008 Author Report Posted November 3, 2008 The move is complete. If I suggest doing this again, someone slap me. If anyone has any trouble staying logged in, I suggest logging out, clearing your cache and cookies, and logging back in.
Tax Prep by Deb Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 For me so far so good. I tried going to the site yesterday but was not able to. I tried this morning and came right on without having to re-log so I think everything worked fine for me so far! Again thanks for doing this for us and for having the fore-thought to do it now instead of during the tax season! Deb!
Jack from Ohio Posted November 3, 2008 Report Posted November 3, 2008 The move is complete. If I suggest doing this again, someone slap me. I was just thinking the same thing about being married...
JohnH Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Thanks for all your hard work, Eric. BTW, I had no problem logging back in, probably because I clear my cash every payday (and then some).
Lion EA Posted November 4, 2008 Report Posted November 4, 2008 Thank you very much, Eric. Your talents and hard work are MUCH appreciated.
