Marie Posted October 9, 2023 Report Posted October 9, 2023 Husband and wife both did a gift. I marked the box that it was a split gift. Do I have to file a 709 for husband and wife separately and do the same spouse gift consent on both? Neither gave any other gifts over $16000 Quote
Marie Posted October 9, 2023 Author Report Posted October 9, 2023 also, this return can be efiled? or because of signatures, it has to be mailed? Quote
Sara EA Posted October 10, 2023 Report Posted October 10, 2023 Both spouses have to file 709s when gifts are split. There really is no reason to split gifts anymore because the lifetime gift/estate tax exemptions are so high. It just creates extra paperwork. Form 709 cannot be efiled. 2 Quote
