TAXBILLY Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 A client just called me and said he got a letter from IBM purporting to do a survey of tax compliance for the IRS. In the envelope was a dollar bill and a promise to pay $25 if the client calls the special number. Sounds like a scam to me. I know IRS contracted with IBM back in 2005 for such a survey that turned out to be a bust but to offer money for info just smells to me. taxbilly Quote
JohnH Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 I'd use the dollar to buy a cup of coffee and throw away the letter. Quote
PapaJoe Posted October 16, 2008 Report Posted October 16, 2008 Can you buy a cup of coffee for a dollar? Quote
TAXBILLY Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Where I live here in sunny Florida you can get a senior citizen coffee for 94 cents. taxbilly Quote
JohnH Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 taxbiilly got it right. Counting the Senior Citizen discount, I can get a cup for under a dollar at the local Petro Express if I also buy gas. Quote
TAXBILLY Posted October 17, 2008 Author Report Posted October 17, 2008 Being a senior citizen I get gas (burp) all the time! taxbilly Quote
mdmcfarland Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 You can get coffee for 50 cents at the quick stop in the town I live in (in northeast Nebraska). The regulars there like to tell everyone that the price of coffee is 50 cents a gallon. There is no charge for refills. Quote
JohnH Posted October 17, 2008 Report Posted October 17, 2008 You gotta admit 50 cents is a good deal for a cup of coffee. After all, if you walk over to the cooler and pull out a 12-oz bottle of water, you'll have to pay a dollar or more for it. Quote
