Mel in Hawaii Posted June 30, 2008 Report Posted June 30, 2008 If the companies won't upgrade willingly, FORCE them to upgrade. The EU should use this as more evidence against them and keep fining them. Quote

joelgilb Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 >>Microsoft to Stop Selling Windows XP... << Dang! Office Max is all sold out of DOS. XP is a better operating system than Vista. Vista like the old ME is flawed. Bought my daughter a Dell laptop for college and DOWNGRADED to XP! Time MS realized that Vista is a Piece of Sh*T Quote
Lion EA Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 My long range plan had been to buy another computer this off-season, but held off with MS's plan to stop selling XP. Don't want one on XP and one on Vista. Don't want one on Vista at all. Now not sure what to do. Maybe buy the new printer and a second monitor and nurse my computers along until MS does something better. Quote
JohnH Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 I'm running one wth XP and another with Vista. It isn't a problem to switch from one to the other, but I'm amazed at how sluggish the Vista computer is. It literally acts like the guy in the Mac commercial - dozing off in the middle of a conversation. Sometimes in the middle of an operation in Excel it will just side into a suspended state more or less lik it's meditating. I have learned to notice it and I just turn & do something else for anywhere from 30 seconds to a couple of minutes. Eventually I'll notice that the cursor is back so I return to what I was doing. The computer was sold to me by Office Depot with Vista installed, so one would think you could expect it to work normally. My computer guy says he's going to install additional memory and we'll see if that makes a difference. In the meantime, my experience has told me that Vista is a dud. Quote
Jack from Ohio Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 There are still computer companies that will build a desktop PC with XP PRO as the operating system. I have access to one such company. I think I heard that MAC sales have increased 37% since Microsoft rolled out Vista. Neither I, nor the firm I work for, will have any computer with Vista on it until there is absolutely NO other option. The kicker is, some new laptop manufacturers are using hardware that is not XP compatible, so downgrading is not possible. I also have a MAC I am investigating as well. I think Vista will die a slow agonizing death like BETA video, and HDDVD. Quote
JohnH Posted July 1, 2008 Report Posted July 1, 2008 I'm thinking about trying a Mac as well. Microsoft sometimes begins to look & act like IBM back in the 1970's & 80's. Just knew they owed the market and then got their head handed to them. Quote
