Anyone know how to get rid of "security ID number?"

Taxpayer legally claims son as dependent.  However, e-file is rejected due to the need of son's "special ID #".  Son has never rec'd special #  & taxpayer is tired of mailing 1040.   Suggestions to 'rid'~'renew'~'void' "special id" is appreciated. Issue has continued for years - no reason for son (disabled) to have ever rec'd sp ID ~ no ID theft etc.                                              Suggestions are greatly appreciated to make t/payer's life easier as I retire.     (p.s. last yr I called tax prep's  hot line & rec'd : "well, I don't know, bla, bla" type answer.)
