schirallicpa Posted August 16, 2022 Report Posted August 16, 2022 Client is asking if I can stop the payments that we set up to automatically debit from her account. Fed and NYS. Haven't had this situation before. Other than telling her not to have funds available, is there any suggestion on how to stop the payments? Amended return for the change in payments? Quote
BulldogTom Posted August 16, 2022 Report Posted August 16, 2022 Not sure about NYS, but here are the instructions from IRS.gov for Federal. Call IRS e-file Payment Services 24/7 at 1-888-353-4537 to inquire about or cancel your payment, but please wait 7 to 10 days after your return was accepted before calling. Cancellation requests must be received no later than 11:59 p.m. ET two business days prior to the scheduled payment date. Tom Longview, TX 4 Quote
schirallicpa Posted August 16, 2022 Author Report Posted August 16, 2022 I have a 2848 on file with her. Wonder if I can do it for her. No specific check boxes for un-doing a payment. Quote

No specific check boxes for un-doing a payment. Does it allow you to represent for all tax matters for the 1040 series pertaining to the tax year in question, specifically for 2022 for the estimates? Follow Tom's instructions above. Amending won't do it. 2 Quote
Terry D EA Posted August 17, 2022 Report Posted August 17, 2022 FYI- I have called on behalf of a client and they were very helpful at stopping the draft. 3 Quote
Randall Posted August 17, 2022 Report Posted August 17, 2022 I called last spring for a client. IRS Rep cancelled the scheduled ES payments, gave me confirmation numbers. A different confirm number for each scheduled payment. Did not ask for POA. Amending the return will not work because the 1040-ES info is not submitted with the amended return since the amended ES amount is zero. 2 Quote
GraceNY Posted August 18, 2022 Report Posted August 18, 2022 RE: NY (1) Client can set up an online account and then go in and cancel the estimates. You can only cancel 1 estimate at a time. OR (2) You can have client sign an EZ-Rep form which should allow you to go into their account. Hope that helps... Quote
