wirtzjm Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Some how, when I efiled a clients tax return, another clients bank account information was transmitted so the clients refund of $ 2.346.00 was deposited into the second clients bank and of course the stimulus payment will also be deposited into the wrong account. Any suggestions on how I can fix this will be appreciated. Jim Quote
taxit Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 If the bank rejected the deposit of the refund back to IRS, then your client will receive a paper check for the tax refund and a paper check for the stimulus payment. Quote
Chrisbry Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 Are you saying that the deposit actually went into the WRONG client's account? Yikes! Quote
kcjenkins Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 The bank should not have accepted a deposit into an account that had a different person's name on it, so the bank should be where you start. I've never heard of a bank accepting a refund deposit where the taxpayer was not on the account. Normally, they reject them and the IRS then sends a check by mail. Are you sure that they actually accepted the deposit? Quote
jasdlm Posted May 14, 2008 Report Posted May 14, 2008 I have seen the bank accept an erroneous deposit more than once. There is a reference on the IRS website addressing this problem under Stimulus FAQs. Bottom line, it gives a number to call and try to stop deposit. Quote
