Hahn1040 Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 return rejected because some one had claimed dependent (probably non-custodial parent) she is the custodial parent, she will paper file with documentation to support her claim What do I do about the state? She owes... so can't just wait until the federal is resolved which we know will be many months. I have not tired to electronically file... not sure what to do?? any suggestions will be greatly appreciated! Quote
Donnarae Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 When this happened to my client, I filed a paper state and claimed the child. If the state questions the dependent, respond at that time with documentation. The state (VA) has never questioned it in any of my cases. Quote
Abby Normal Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 Disconnect the state from the Mef system and just efile the state. This might not be available for all states, but it works for MD. 2 Quote
Hahn1040 Posted April 21, 2022 Author Report Posted April 21, 2022 Thank you so much! I am also VA I transmitted and it is accepted. I'll tell her that she will get a letter from VA if IRS does not give her the exemption. 2 Quote
Pacun Posted April 21, 2022 Report Posted April 21, 2022 Efile both with and at the same time mail both X filings with the "already-claimed" child. 1 Quote
