Chowdahead Posted April 13, 2022 Report Posted April 13, 2022 There was a thread floating around regarding this. Parent had filed 2019 and 2020 return with dependent and received $1,400 EIP3 for the dependent. Now the "dependent" is filing their 2021 return on their own and not as a dependent of their parent. Can they claim the $1,400 Recovery Rebate Credit? Will they receive it? All logic tells me no, but there was info here that seemed to indicate IRS guidance is that they do in fact qualify. Thoughts? NECPA in NEBRASKA Posted April 13, 2022 Report Posted April 13, 2022 Logic does not make a difference. As far as I have been able to tell, the dependent can received the $1,400, also. 1 Quote
Lee B Posted April 14, 2022 Report Posted April 14, 2022 The IRS released revised FAQs on EIP3 a few days ago 3 Quote
gfizer Posted April 19, 2022 Report Posted April 19, 2022 I had this same situation with my daughter in law. Mom claimed her last year and received EIP3 and she and my son filed jointly this year and received EIP3 for her as part of their refund. Quote
Edauditor Posted April 19, 2022 Report Posted April 19, 2022 IRS will send the EIP3 to the qualified taxpayer and IRS will request parent to return the 1400 after correspondence been sent to new taxpayer to confirm the claim. Quote

Abby Normal Posted April 20, 2022 Report Posted April 20, 2022 No EIPs are to be returned. If you got it, it's yours to keep. 4 Quote
