The SSN has not been received for an adopted child. I am advising an extension for this client but they want to file without and amend later due to stimulus rebate. Does it really matter? I will charge them for the amended return and they understand that.

Does it make a difference if they are scheduled to get their rebate in May or July according to his/her last two digits of SSN? If they are scheduled for late June or July I would consider an extension. You can get a SS number in 10 days to 2 weeks. I would think if you file in two weeks from today they would still be in time to get their rebate check on time. For a May shedule it might delay the rebate.

This is just my thoughts, no references to show.
