Marie Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 This is happening more and more, not just occasionally, which I could handle. Is there a fix if I call ATX? Quote
Pacun Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 That happens to me when I have a large return and try to print. I wonder if others have that issue only when invoking the print subroutine. By the way, this didn't happen on Windows 10 but now that I have Windows 11, it happens. Quote
ETax847 Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Happens to me everyday. Would love to know what the solution is. I'm still on Windows 10 Quote
GLJEANNE Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Last year and this one it's been so bad. Today is the worst, I quit counting after it crashed a dozen times before 12:30. The portal is pretty unstable also. Quote
jasdlm Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Happens to me multiple times every day. It's a total drag. Quote
Lee B Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 In the past, what was happening is that the ATX program would fill up the printer buffer with miscellaneous garbage data. When the printer buffer would overflow the program would crash. Whether this is still the cause I don't know? The low tech solution is to reboot your computer and clear the printer buffer. Abby has posted instructions in the past on how to clear the printer buffer without rebooting. Quote
mcb39 Posted March 28, 2022 Report Posted March 28, 2022 Usually at noon, we shut down and restart. We have Windows 10. Have had a few occasions of shut down, but not enough to stop the show. The computers seem to get tired just like us. 1 Quote
Abby Normal Posted March 29, 2022 Report Posted March 29, 2022 The 'fix' is to install and configure Large Address Aware and to close ATX after every large return or 2-3 small returns. If I'm working on a very large return, I'll close ATX and reopen the return several times, including just before printing. ATX is like an old car you want to keep working. You have to baby it. Also, decrappify your computer, even if it's not a brand name computer. Brand name computers come loaded with crap. I saw this article yesterday on bloatware in Windows itself. https://lifehacker.com/you-can-get-rid-of-windows-bloatware-with-one-command-1848707156/amp Quote

It's not your printer, it's the ATX Program fulling up your printer buffer which is part of your operating system. Quote
